GitLab Runner is the execution component for GitLab CI/CD. Every job triggered by a pipeline — whether an automated test, build or deployment — is processed by a Runner. stepping stone operates GitLab Runner on Swiss infrastructure, usually as a complement to the GitLab Server (CE or EE).

A typical setup: the customer hosts their GitLab Server with stepping stone and books one or more Runners, as required. Features such as distributed execution, native autoscaling and artefact caching ensure that pipelines run efficiently and reliably — even as volumes grow.

Development teams and IT departments that wish to run their GitLab pipelines on their own infrastructure — without relying on third-party providers such as GitHub Actions or external runner services.
