stepping stone’s block storage forms the foundation for the virtual hard drives of your cloud servers and GPU workloads. The storage architecture is tiered and based on Ceph — this allows different categories of data to be assigned to the appropriate storage media.
Three performance tiers are available: Tier 1 (NVMe SSD) for databases and time-critical applications with the highest IOPS requirements; Tier 2 (SATA SSD) for operating systems and business applications; and Tier 3 (SATA HDD) as mass storage for large volumes of data and backups. All data is stored with triple redundancy and is encrypted. During every read operation, checksums verify the integrity of the data and automatically protect against silent data loss. Storage capacity can be adjusted at any time to meet changing requirements — with no minimum contract terms.
